Five candidates to contest University of Cyprus rector elections on October 7

The University of Cyprus has officially announced the candidates for its upcoming leadership elections, scheduled for October 7, 2026. Following the closure of the submission period, election officials confirmed that all filings for the positions of rector and vice-rectors were submitted in accordance with regulations.

Five individuals are vying for the position of rector: Eleni-Tatiani Synodinou, Ioannis Yapitzakis, Marina Neophytou, Sofronis Clerides, and Fofi Constantinidou. For the position of Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs, Georgia Panayiotou has submitted a candidacy. The race for the position of Vice-Rector of International Relations, Finance and Administration features Antonis Ellinas and Marios Dikaiakos. Current officeholders among the candidates include Synodinou and Yapitzakis, while other contenders represent various departmental deaneries and specialized academic centers.

The electoral process will involve a period of public debates and presentations where candidates will outline their platforms to the academic community. The university community, represented by the Electoral College, will cast their votes in October to determine the institution's future leadership.
