Nicosia Criminal Court schedules citizenship case proceedings

The Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia has scheduled proceedings for the citizenship case involving former Minister of Transport Marios Demetriades and other defendants. The court session held on September 23, 2026, focused on clarifying recent additions to the indictment. Defense attorney Ilias Stephanou informed the court that the defense received a response from the prosecution regarding requested details on September 22, which both clarified specific points and expanded upon three charges.

To avoid procedural delays, the defense expressed readiness to enter pleas, but requested an intermediate hearing to determine if these charges require further clarification before the full trial commences. Consequently, the court set October 2, 2026, as the date for this procedural review. The main hearing for the case is currently scheduled to begin on October 19, 2026.
