Launch of the Europe Direct center in Nicosia

On Friday, September 18, 2026, the official launch event for the Europe Direct center in Nicosia took place at the historic Municipal Market building and the CYENS Center of Excellence. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Deputy Minister to the President Irini Piki, Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus Panikos Pourgouridis, and Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos, alongside various diplomatic, academic, and business representatives.

Mayor Charalambos Prountzos delivered the opening address, outlining the vision for the center as an accessible hub for information, public dialogue, and civic participation. He emphasized that the initiative aims to bridge the gap between European policies and the daily lives of citizens, specifically targeting increased engagement for young people and strengthening the ties between Nicosia and European institutions.

The new center is designed to function as an open space for the public to learn about European opportunities and initiatives.
