Cypriot Green Party demands end to British base operations and antenna expansion

On September 23, 2026, the Cyprus Green Party (Citizens' Cooperation Movement) issued a formal demand calling for an immediate end to the involvement of British military bases in combat operations. The party specifically urged authorities to halt plans for the installation of 68 new surveillance antennas at the Akrotiri base, located in the Sovereign Base Areas.

To advance these demands, the Green Party has initiated communication with the Green Party of England and Wales. The objective is to raise these concerns within the British House of Commons, challenging the continued presence of the bases, which the movement labels as colonial vestiges, and addressing the use of these facilities as staging grounds for aggressive military actions.
