Cyprus weather forecast: isolated showers and increased wind speeds expected

Weak low pressure currently affects the Cyprus region, leading to localized weather instability. While the island will experience mainly clear skies, increased cloud cover during the afternoon hours is expected to bring isolated rain and potential brief thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous areas, the inland region, and parts of the southeast, including the Larnaca and Famagusta districts.

Meteorological service spokesperson Andreas Chrysanthou highlighted that wind speeds are a significant factor today. Winds are expected to strengthen from light to moderate (3-4 Beaufort) to moderate to strong (4-5 Beaufort), with some coastal areas in the southwest, specifically Paphos and Limassol, potentially facing gusty conditions reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort. Temperatures are forecast to reach highs of approximately 31C in inland and coastal areas, while dropping to 12-14C in the highest mountain regions overnight.

The current meteorological conditions are expected to remain relatively stable through the weekend, with mostly clear skies interspersed with local cloud cover. A further shift in the weather pattern is anticipated to bring more widespread rain and storm activity starting Sunday. Due to the current dry conditions, authorities have issued a high-risk warning for forest fires across all mountainous regions.
