Anorthosis appeals against KOP disciplinary penalties

Anorthosis Famagusta has officially decided to appeal the recent decision of the Cyprus Football Association (KOP) Judicial Committee. The club was sanctioned with one match behind closed doors and a ban on away fan attendance following the use of dangerous objects during the match against APOEL. Executive Director Giannis Maniatis described the punishment as an "unrelenting war" against the club, while Giannos Karousos, President of the Famagusta District Self-Government Organization, publicly criticized the governing body for a perceived lack of consistency and unequal application of rules across different teams.

Beyond the disciplinary issues, Anorthosis is facing a challenging start to the Cyprus League season, having recorded three losses and only one win in their first four matches. Coach Nestor El Maestro is utilizing the current international break to address defensive vulnerabilities and restore team confidence ahead of the upcoming fixture against Paphos on October 11. The club's legal team is now preparing the appeal documentation to challenge the committee's decision, citing concerns over selective enforcement. Meanwhile, the league continues to face broader criticism regarding the quality of refereeing, with discussions ongoing about the potential return of foreign officials to mitigate mounting tensions among club administrations.
