Anorthosis faces sanctions following disciplinary ruling by Cyprus Football Association

The Disciplinary Committee of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has imposed significant sanctions on Anorthosis Famagusta regarding the match against APOEL Nicosia held on September 12, 2026. The club was penalized for the use of pyrotechnics, the throwing of dangerous objects onto the pitch, and a three-minute delay in the start of the match. Consequently, Anorthosis must play one home game behind closed doors and is prohibited from having its fans attend the next away game.

Club officials, including Executive Director Giannis Maniatis, have condemned the decision, describing it as an "unrelenting war" against the team and its supporters. The club's management has publicly called for unity among fans and is currently exploring the legal possibility of filing an appeal against the committee's ruling. Additionally, the committee issued fines to Omonia Nicosia coach Henning Berg for his post-match conduct against Apollon Limassol and to AEL Limassol for improper behavior and crowd disturbances during their match against Nea Salamina.

Anorthosis is expected to play its upcoming home match against Pafos FC without spectators, followed by an away match against Omonia 29th of May without its traveling support. The club continues to evaluate its legal options while expressing grievances over what it characterizes as systematic bias.
