Anorthosis faces sanctions following match incidents

The Cyprus Football Association (KOP) Judicial Committee has imposed a one-match stadium ban and a prohibition on away-match fan travel on Anorthosis Famagusta. This penalty follows incidents during the team's match against APOEL, where supporters were reported to have ignited dangerous objects. As a result, Anorthosis will host Pafos FC behind closed doors for the 6th matchday and will play their 7th matchday away against Omonia 29th of May without the presence of their supporters.

Anorthosis officials have reacted strongly to the decision, describing the disciplinary action as a systematic assault on the club and its fanbase. Executive Director Giannos Maniatis and club spokesperson Charalambos Parpettas have expressed significant grievances, citing perceived inconsistencies in the application of disciplinary rules compared to other clubs. Prominent figures, including Ammochostos local government official Giannis Karousos, have also questioned the fairness of the rulings.

In response to these sanctions, the club has formally announced its decision to file an appeal with the KOP Appeals Court. The administration is currently waiting for a date to be set for the hearing to contest both the home stadium ban and the restriction on away travel.
