New regional mental health center inaugurated in Pelendri

A new mental health facility named the Regional Multicenter for Mountain Areas Empowerment, or "Gefyra Endynamosis Orinon Periochon," was officially inaugurated in the village of Pelendri. The launch event took place on Friday, September 18, under the patronage of the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities, Charalambos Christofinas.

The project aims to improve access to mental health services for residents of mountain communities, specifically targeting children, adolescents, adults, and families. Key officials present at the opening included Christofora Giatrou from the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare and Giannis Tsouloftas, President of the Limassol District Self-Government Organization. The Cyprus Association of Psychotherapists will coordinate the psychotherapy services provided at the center, ensuring that remote populations receive adequate support within their own localities.

This initiative comes as part of broader efforts to bridge the gap in healthcare access for residents living in isolated mountainous regions, who have historically faced significant barriers in reaching centralized urban facilities. The center is intended to function as a primary support hub, integrating various social and therapeutic services under one roof to meet the diverse needs of the local mountain population.
