Investigation into the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis

The death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis is under investigation following reports of irregular medical practices at a private clinic in Kolonaki, Athens. Reports indicate that medical staff may have administered substances such as midazolam and potentially propofol to the singer prior to a plasmapheresis procedure. A nurse present at the scene, identified as E.Th., allegedly expressed concern about the singer’s condition to doctor Ioanna Gaka, but was dismissed. Witnesses reported hearing terms like "defibrillator," "adrenaline," and "propofol" at the clinic shortly before emergency services (EKAB) were called at approximately 16:15 on September 23, 2026.

The family’s lawyer, Charalampos Lykoudis, has demanded an acceleration of toxicological reports and accused clinic staff of providing false testimonies. A key piece of evidence is a brief phone call made from the clinic to an external anesthesiologist minutes before the emergency services were summoned. Authorities are currently examining the exact substances and dosages administered. The singer’s family is pursuing legal action, including potential charges of perjury, concealment of a crime, and complicity against employees of the Gaka-Theodoropoulos clinic.
