Investigation into the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis at a medical clinic

The death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis at a private medical clinic in Kolonaki has triggered an ongoing investigation focusing on the medical procedures and substances administered during his session. Reports indicate that prior to a plasmapheresis treatment, the singer may have been given midazolam for sedation, followed by Anexate. However, there are significant witness accounts suggesting the use of propofol, a potent intravenous anesthetic, as clinic staff were reportedly heard inquiring about an antidote for it shortly before emergency services were called around 16:15.

The family’s attorney, Charalampos Lykoudis, has requested an acceleration of toxicological and histological examinations to determine the exact cause of death. Furthermore, the legal team intends to summon a 53-year-old nurse who was present during the procedure. Allegations of perjury and potential criminal negligence have been leveled against staff members who, according to the family, provided inconsistent or false testimonies regarding the events. A nurse reported that the singer appeared distressed and physically reactive before losing consciousness, despite concerns raised to the lead doctor, Ioanna Gaka.

Authorities are currently analyzing the timeline of events, including a brief phone call made from the clinic to an external anesthesiologist regarding the potential administration of propofol. The investigation is ongoing, with legal experts considering potential charges of perjury and complicity as forensic results are awaited.
