Nicosia launches master plan for Pedieos River park transformation

The Nicosia, Strovolos, and Lakatamia municipalities have unveiled a comprehensive master plan for the urban redevelopment and modernization of the Pedieos River Linear Park. The project, aimed at improving urban infrastructure, alternative mobility, and leisure spaces, carries an estimated budget of approximately €21 million. Funding is expected to be provided 85% by the Thalia program and 15% by the participating municipalities. The Environmental Impact Assessment is currently open for public consultation at the Department of Environment until October 23, 2026.

The development involves 15 action areas along the river and will be implemented in two phases. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027 and conclude by early 2029 for Phase A, while Phase B will commence in late 2028. The plan includes upgrading 11 kilometers of existing pedestrian and cycling paths, creating 5.1 kilometers of new routes, and constructing 13 new pedestrian bridges, including an elevated bridge over Strovolos Avenue near the Presidential Palace to improve neighborhood connectivity.
