Recent forest and brush fires contained across Cyprus

Between September 23 and September 27, 2026, the Department of Forests and the Fire Service responded to a series of fires across Cyprus. The incidents began with a fire in the Androlikou area of Paphos on September 23, affecting one decare of wild vegetation. Further incidents occurred on September 25 near the A5 motorway in Klavdia, where five forestry personnel and two firefighters used three vehicles to extinguish a blaze.

On September 27, emergency services managed several additional fires. A fire near the Polis Chrysochous campsite was extinguished in 20 minutes, while another broke out in Aradippou. A notable fire occurred in the Sia community near the Karris state forest, caused by a vehicle ignition; it involved 17 responders and damaged a private car. Finally, a small fire in the Pedagogical Academy National Forest Park in Aglantzia was contained within ten minutes. All incidents were brought under control rapidly by ground crews, and investigations into the specific causes are ongoing for those not already identified as vehicle-related.
