Recent series of forest and field fires across Cyprus

Between September 23 and 27, 2026, several fires were reported across Cyprus, requiring the immediate intervention of the Department of Forests and the Fire Service. On September 23, a fire in the Mersinouthkia area of Androlikou, Paphos, burned one decare of low wild vegetation; it was controlled within 20 minutes by two forestry personnel. On September 25, another fire broke out near the A5 highway in Klavdia, Larnaca, involving five forestry workers and two firefighters.

Additional incidents occurred on September 27. A fire near the Polis Chrysochous camping site in Paphos was extinguished shortly after ignition. Later that day, a fire occurred in Aradippou, affecting dry grass. In Sias, Nicosia, a blaze ignited near the Karris state forest due to a private vehicle catching fire. This incident required the largest response, involving 17 personnel and five vehicles, to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby forest. In all cases, authorities confirmed that the fires were brought under control quickly, and investigations into the causes of the non-accidental blazes are ongoing.
