Napoli owner announces plans for a new 70,000-seat stadium

Aurelio De Laurentiis, the owner of the Italian football club Napoli, announced on September 24, 2026, that the club intends to construct a new stadium with a capacity of 70,000 spectators. Speaking during an event where he received the 'Lifetime Achievement Award 2025,' De Laurentiis revealed that he has secured a 39-hectare site in eastern Naples. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months.

The proposed venue will feature luxury suites, restaurants, and an interactive museum dedicated to Diego Maradona, allowing fans to virtually compete with historical club figures like Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain. De Laurentiis dismissed current local government proposals to renovate the existing Stadio Diego Armando Maradona with 200 million euros in public funds, stating that the historic facility, which he described as a 'toilet,' is beyond repair and requires demolition. The club will continue to use the current stadium until the new facility is fully constructed.
