Construction of CUT School of Marine Sciences in Larnaca begins

On September 24, 2026, the Municipality of Larnaca signed a contract with Cyfield Construction Ltd for the construction of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) School of Marine Sciences, Technology, and Sustainable Development. The facility will be located in the Mackenzie area, near the old Larnaca airport. The project has a budget of €10,934,000 and is scheduled to be completed within a 22-month timeframe by August 2028.

Construction activities are set to commence immediately, with the official laying of the foundation stone by President Nikos Christodoulides scheduled for October 30, 2026. The new school will feature two departments: Marine Sciences and Technology, and Sustainable Development. Mayor Andreas Vyras and CUT Rector Panagiotis Zaphiris have emphasized the importance of adhering to the construction schedule, as the goal is for classes to begin in the new facilities by the autumn of 2028.

The development is considered a significant infrastructure project for Larnaca, intended to integrate modern academic facilities into the region. Both the local municipal authorities and university leadership underscored that the project is vital for the city's educational growth and urban development, aiming to provide a high-quality academic environment comparable to other established universities in the country.
