Balcony collapse at Roussos Olympic Palace in Limassol

On the morning of Thursday, September 24, 2026, a balcony at the Roussos Olympic Palace residential complex in Limassol collapsed. The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when a balcony on the fifth floor gave way, falling onto the fourth floor. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the structure was internal. Police, firefighters, Civil Defense, and the Limassol District Self-Government Organization (EOA) responded to the scene.

The building, which contains over 50 apartments, had already been officially designated as a dangerous structure. Procedures for its evacuation were already underway, facilitated by the Ministry of Interior. Following the incident, the EOA and Civil Defense evacuated the residents, approximately 30 of whom have been provided with temporary accommodation for two days. This is not the first time such an event has occurred at this location, with similar issues recorded in the past, including an incident in 2022.

Moving forward, the President of the EOA, Yiannis Tsouloftas, stated that owners must now hire a structural engineer to perform necessary repairs to eliminate the building's hazardous status. Officials are scheduled to re-evaluate the premises in two days to determine the next steps regarding safety and structural integrity.
