Support program workers at the Ministry of Education demand restoration of rights

Workers in support programs under the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth have formally demanded the full and immediate implementation of a court ruling dated October 8, 2020 (Case No. 1368/2014). The employees are calling for the complete restoration of their labor and social security rights covering the period from 2013 to 2026, citing significant delays in justice.

The administrative court ruled six years ago that the decision by the Director of Social Insurance to classify these workers as self-employed was erroneous, lacking proper investigation and justification. Despite this legal victory, the staff reports that they continue to face periods without income and remain deprived of their full benefits. A memorandum detailing these grievances has been submitted to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, the parliamentary committees on Education and Labor, and the trade unions PASEY-PEO and OEKDY-SEK.

The employees are currently seeking urgent intervention to address these ongoing disparities. They emphasize that the prolonged failure to execute the court’s decision has resulted in a continued lack of legal and financial security, prompting this coordinated effort to ensure their rights are finally recognized and implemented.
