Jet2 flight to Larnaca returns to Edinburgh after passenger arrest

A 32-year-old man, identified as Gerard Buist, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday following an incident on a Jet2 flight bound for Larnaca on Wednesday. Flight LS721, a Boeing 737, departed Edinburgh Airport but was forced to turn back approximately 30 minutes into the journey, near Newcastle, after reports of a highly disruptive passenger.

Upon landing safely in Edinburgh, the aircraft was met by emergency services and police, who arrested Buist. He has been charged with three counts of assault, one count of assault to injury, two counts of threatening and abusive behaviour, and one count of acting in a disruptive manner on an aircraft. Jet2 issued a statement condemning the behaviour and emphasizing their zero-tolerance policy regarding passenger misconduct. The airline apologized to the affected passengers for the significant disruption to their travel plans.
