Former DISY leader Averof Neofytou threatens independent presidential bid

Former president of the Democratic Rally (DISY) party, Averof Neofytou, has publicly declared his intention to run for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus. Speaking to media outlets Omega and Alpha on September 24 and 25, 2026, Neofytou conditioned his candidacy on the developments surrounding the Cyprus problem, stating that if the path to a solution remains blocked, he will proceed with his bid.
