Sculpture 'Cyprus’s Journey Through the Ages' unveiled in Protaras

On Saturday, 19 September 2026, the sculpture titled “Cyprus’s Journey Through the Ages” was officially unveiled on the coastal promenade of Protaras in the Xistaria area. The work, created by renowned Cypriot sculptor Philippos Yiapanis, aims to symbolize the historical continuity of the island and the enduring ties between Cypriot Hellenism and Greece.

The artwork was donated by Chrysostomos and Katerina Papavassiliou, along with their company, and was installed with the cooperation of the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia. The unveiling ceremony was conducted under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Culture. The location of the sculpture, at Lefkolla in Protaras, was chosen for its strategic view overlooking the occupied city of Famagusta and the ancient site of Salamis, which previously hosted the sculpture’s presentation.

This installation serves as a permanent landmark intended to preserve collective memory and cultural identity in the region. The sculpture is expected to remain a fixture on the coastal promenade for residents and tourists as a site for remembrance and historical reflection.
