Wage negotiations for hourly government personnel in Cyprus

Representatives of Cypriot trade unions, including OEKDY-SEK, PASYEK-PEO, and DEOK, met with Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos on September 25, 2026, to discuss wage improvements for hourly government workers. The discussions were held in anticipation of a critical meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, scheduled for the following Monday at 11:00.

During the initial meeting, the government presented an improved proposal regarding wages and benefits, which unions described as a significant shift that recognizes the necessity of salary increases. Despite this progress, union representatives noted that the current offer may not yet fully meet their members' expectations. Unions have remained firm in their stance that collective agreements will only be renewed if substantive wage improvements are secured.

Looking ahead, the meeting on Monday with President Christodoulides is viewed as the decisive stage in the process. Trade union leaders have explicitly warned that should the negotiations fail to yield substantial progress at the upcoming meetings with the Finance Minister and the President, they are prepared to announce protest measures without further delay.
