Diplomatic efforts for a tripartite meeting on Cyprus continue in New York

Diplomatic efforts are currently underway in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to determine the possibility of a tripartite meeting regarding the Cyprus issue. President Nikos Christodoulides has presented 19 proposals concerning negotiation methodology and confidence-building measures to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letympiotis stated that these proposals were received positively and suggested that the President is prepared to extend his stay in New York if there is a favorable response from the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman.

The situation remains fluid as stakeholders await the outcome of Tufan Erhurman's upcoming meeting with Antonio Guterres. Political analysts note that this period represents a critical window for initiating an informal meeting before the end of Guterres' term. Should this opportunity fail to materialize, experts believe further progress on a high-level meeting will be difficult to achieve before the UN leadership transition at the end of the year.

Separately, tensions emerged at the Cyprus Forum when officials withdrew following a dispute over the official titles assigned to local leaders. This friction highlights the ongoing political challenges surrounding the representation of both communities during civil dialogue events.
