Driver identified after hit-and-run involving two British tourists in Paralimni

Famagusta traffic police have identified the driver responsible for a hit-and-run incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 20, in Paralimni. A 19-year-old man, the owner of the vehicle involved, struck a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man as they were walking along an unpaved section of Vrysoudion Street toward the Agia Triada roundabout. The victims, who are tourists from Britain, were returning to their accommodation after spending time at a nightclub in the Pernera area when the collision took place at approximately 4:00 a.m.

Following the incident, the 19-year-old driver fled the scene. Upon being approached by police, the suspect displayed erratic behavior, leading authorities to conduct a psychiatric evaluation. A court order for his compulsory admission to Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital was issued, where he currently remains. The 28-year-old woman received first aid at Famagusta General Hospital and has since been discharged. The 29-year-old man, who sustained a serious head injury and multiple fractures, has stabilized and is reported to be out of immediate danger.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Legal proceedings and questioning of the suspect are expected to commence once he is discharged from the psychiatric facility.
