Famagusta police identify driver involved in hit-and-run against British tourists

Famagusta traffic police have identified a 19-year-old foreign national as the driver responsible for a hit-and-run incident in Paralimni early Sunday. The collision occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Vrysoudion Street, where a car struck a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man from Britain as they were walking back to their accommodation from a local nightclub. The driver fled the scene immediately after the impact.

The victims were transported to Famagusta General Hospital. The 28-year-old woman received first aid and was subsequently discharged. The 29-year-old man, who sustained a serious head injury and required intubation, remains hospitalized, though medical officials report his condition has stabilized and he is no longer in danger.

Upon being approached by authorities, the suspect exhibited erratic behavior. Following a psychiatric evaluation, he was issued a mandatory hospitalization order at Athalassa Hospital. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the incident, and criminal proceedings against the suspect are expected to commence once he is discharged from the psychiatric facility.
