Larnaca 2030 organization submits planning application for major cultural center

The Larnaca 2030 organization has officially submitted a planning application for the construction of a major Arts and Culture Center. This project is a cornerstone of the infrastructure development for Larnaca's tenure as the European Capital of Culture in 2030. The organization has requested priority processing from state authorities due to the strict timelines associated with the European designation.

The proposed complex, spanning approximately 8,000 square meters, will be located in the area of the former oil refineries. The project is estimated to cost around 30 million euros. Designed by the internationally acclaimed firm Foster + Partners in collaboration with the Cypriot office UDS Architects, the building will feature a central arts venue, including an 800-seat theater, and a creative center with exhibition spaces. The design phase was commissioned and funded to date by the Petrolina Group, which is also involved in the broader 'Land of Tomorrow' development in the same area.

This application marks a significant milestone in the project's realization. Beyond serving as a hub for the European Capital of Culture events, the center is intended to function as a permanent cultural facility for the city and Cyprus long after the 2030 celebrations conclude. The next phases will involve further licensing procedures, public tendering, and eventual construction.
