Former Cyprus Police Chief Tasos Panagiotou passes away

The Cyprus Police force announced the death of former Chief of Police Tasos Panagiotou, who served the force with distinction for 42 years. Joining the ranks in 1964, Panagiotou held various significant roles throughout his career, including positions at the Nicosia CID, the Police Academy, and as the Commander of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN).

Panagiotou reached the pinnacle of his career in 2002 when he was appointed Deputy Chief in February and subsequently Chief of Police in September of the same year. He remained in the role of Chief until his retirement in 2006, a period marked by his contributions to the modernization and development of the force. His legacy is noted for his professional ethics and dedication to duty across multiple departments and directorates.

The police organization has expressed its deep condolences to his family and friends. His funeral is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 28.
