Cyprus labor ministry to conduct construction industry inspections in October

The Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus has announced a series of targeted, nationwide inspections across the construction industry throughout October 2026. This campaign aims to combat undeclared labor and ensure strict adherence to fundamental labor laws, including wage regulations, working hours, and mandatory weekly rest periods.

Authorities have highlighted the financial consequences for employers who fail to comply with the legislation. The initial fine for employing an undeclared worker is €1,000 for the month the violation is detected, increasing by €500 over a six-month period. Repeat offenses within two years result in higher penalties: the fine doubles to €2,000 for a second offense and reaches €3,000 for a third or subsequent violation.

This initiative serves as a follow-up to ongoing systemic efforts to improve workplace conditions in the construction sector. To support the enforcement of these laws, the government has provided the public with a dedicated telephone line, 77778577, where citizens can report violations of employment terms anonymously or by name.
