Cyprus organizes educational animal welfare event for pupils in Achelia

On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, an educational initiative focused on animal welfare will take place at the C.A.P.C.A. shelter in Achelia. Organized by the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare in collaboration with the municipalities of Yeroskipou and Paphos, the event marks the upcoming World Animal Day celebrated on October 4. The program is scheduled to run from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

The initiative, themed "We see the world through their eyes," involves students and teachers from the First Primary School of Yeroskipou and the Second Primary School of Paphos, known as Dimitreion. Attendees will tour the facilities to learn about the shelter's operations and the needs of companion animals. Discussions will cover responsible ownership, the challenges of stray and abandoned animals, and the role of volunteerism in animal protection. Key officials, including Animal Welfare Commissioner Elias Myrianthos, Yeroskipou Mayor Nikos Palios, Deputy Mayor Andreas Siikkis, and Acting Paphos Mayor Angelos Onesiforou, are expected to attend the event to emphasize the importance of compassion and education in animal care.
