Workplace accident statistics for 2024 published by Eurostat

Data published by Eurostat on September 25, 2026, reveals a significant decrease in fatal workplace accidents in Cyprus during 2024. The country recorded five such incidents, down from 14 in 2023 and nine in 2022. Conversely, non-fatal workplace accidents in Cyprus showed a slight increase, reaching 1,320 compared to 1,314 in 2023.

At the European Union level, the trend was reversed. Fatal workplace accidents rose by 1.4% to a total of 3,367, an increase of 45 cases over the previous year. However, non-fatal accidents across the EU decreased by 1.5%, totaling 2.78 million incidents. The construction sector remains the most dangerous in the EU, accounting for 776 fatal accidents, although this reflects a decline from the 802 recorded in 2023. This was followed by the transport and storage sector with 537 fatalities, and manufacturing with 466.

While the construction industry saw the highest number of fatalities, the manufacturing sector recorded the highest number of non-fatal injuries with 509,851 cases. This figure for the manufacturing sector reportedly marks the lowest level recorded in the past decade according to the statistical data provided by the agency.
