Workplace accidents in Cyprus and the European Union for 2024

Eurostat data released on Friday shows a significant decline in fatal workplace accidents in Cyprus, with 5 cases reported in 2024 compared to 14 in 2023 and 9 in 2022. Conversely, the European Union experienced an overall increase of 1.4% in fatal incidents, totaling 3,367 deaths across the bloc. Regarding non-fatal accidents in Cyprus, there were 1,320 reported incidents in 2024, showing relative stability compared to 1,314 in 2023 and 1,326 in 2022.

Across the EU, the construction sector recorded the highest number of fatal workplace accidents with 776 incidents, despite a decrease from 802 in 2023. The transport and storage sector followed with 537 fatal accidents. While non-fatal workplace accidents in the EU decreased by 1.5% to approximately 2.78 million cases, the upward trend in fatal accidents remains a point of concern for European safety authorities.
