Nicosia man dies following September 5 traffic collision

Costas Papadopoulos, a 79-year-old resident of Nicosia, passed away on September 25, 2026, following a serious traffic accident. The collision occurred in the early hours of September 5 on Nikis Avenue in Nicosia, when the vehicle driven by Papadopoulos collided with a car operated by a 19-year-old individual.

Following the impact, the 19-year-old's vehicle struck a parked car and came to a stop. Papadopoulos sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remained intubated in the intensive care unit for approximately three weeks. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under active investigation by the Nicosia Traffic Department. Authorities are currently reviewing the evidence to determine the exact sequence of events and factors that led to the fatal accident.
