Cypriot Foreign Minister concludes diplomatic mission at the UN General Assembly

Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos participated in the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, conducting 51 meetings to expand the diplomatic footprint of the Republic of Cyprus. During his visit, Kombos hosted a trilateral ministerial meeting with his Greek and Egyptian counterparts, Badr Abdelatty and George Gerapetritis, to coordinate preparations for the upcoming 11th Trilateral Summit scheduled to be held in Cyprus.

Beyond trilateral talks, the minister engaged in numerous bilateral meetings with counterparts from various countries, including India, Indonesia, Iceland, and the United Arab Emirates. A notable outcome was the signing of a visa-waiver agreement for diplomatic and service passport holders with Indonesia, aimed at facilitating official exchanges. Kombos also participated in a trilateral meeting with Greece and Jordan and a summit of Europe's small states.

The diplomatic efforts serve to reinforce Cyprus’s position regarding its national issue and regional stability. Following the conclusion of the UN sessions, Kombos stated that the government remains focused on returning to substantive negotiations on the Cyprus issue, while navigating existing challenges and Turkish opposition to established UN frameworks. Moving forward, Nicosia plans to maintain international diplomatic pressure and continue seeking support from global partners to keep the Cyprus issue high on the international agenda.
