Police conduct major overnight crime prevention operations across Cyprus

During overnight operations on September 25-26 and September 26-27, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted island-wide patrols in key urban areas to enhance public safety and maintain order. In the first operation, officers arrested 12 individuals for offences including assault, knife possession, and drink-driving. During this period, police stopped 815 vehicles, checked 1,052 people, inspected 57 premises, and issued 362 traffic reports, with 128 related to speeding and 23 to alcohol, while 10 vehicles were impounded.

A second operation overnight on September 26-27 resulted in five arrests for various charges including drug-driving, public indecency, and malicious damage. Officers checked 885 drivers and 397 passengers, conducted 62 premises inspections, and issued 309 traffic violations, 99 of which were for speeding. Additionally, 391 breathalyzer tests led to 22 reports, and one driver tested positive for narcotics, resulting in the impoundment of eight vehicles. Police stated that these intensified, targeted patrols are part of a daily effort to combat crime and address traffic violations across the country.
