Police conduct nationwide security operations across Cyprus

Overnight on September 25-26, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of targeted preventive operations across the country. The initiative aimed to deter serious criminal activity, uphold public order, and enhance the public's sense of security through intensified patrols in key urban areas.

During the sweep, police officers inspected 57 premises, resulting in 13 reports, and checked 1,052 individuals across 815 stopped vehicles. Authorities made 12 arrests for various offenses, including assault, knife possession, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, traffic enforcement efforts resulted in 362 charges, with 128 incidents involving speeding, 23 related to alcohol consumption, and one case of drug-impaired driving. Police also impounded 10 vehicles and launched investigations into 12 further traffic-related matters. Officers conducted a total of 307 alcohol breath tests and six drug tests during the operation.

Police officials stated that these operations are part of an ongoing daily effort to maintain security. The increased presence and targeted enforcement actions are set to continue as part of a broader strategy to combat delinquency and protect the public.
