Police conduct nationwide security operations and traffic enforcement campaigns

Cypriot police have conducted a series of nationwide security operations and targeted traffic enforcement campaigns between September 27 and 29, 2026. These efforts aimed to prevent serious crimes, maintain public order, and reduce road fatalities. During various nocturnal operations, authorities reported numerous arrests for offenses including illegal drug possession, residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus, traffic violations, and failure to comply with court orders. Thousands of drivers and passengers were checked across the island, with hundreds of traffic citations issued, particularly for speeding and driving under the influence.

Simultaneously, specific campaigns targeted the illegal use of personal mobility devices, such as electric scooters, in Nicosia and Paphos. In Paphos alone, 34 individuals were reported for violations, including riding in prohibited areas, failing to wear helmets, and carrying objects while operating devices. In Nicosia, 36 citations were issued with the confiscation of 22 devices and a motorcycle. Police also inspected dozens of establishments to address delinquency, resulting in multiple administrative reports. These ongoing enforcement actions serve as part of a broader commitment to improve road safety and ensure public compliance with established regulations.
