Police conduct wide-scale crime prevention operations in Cyprus

Over the nights of September 25-26 and September 26-27, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted nationwide operations focused on crime prevention, public order, and road safety. These intensive patrols targeted key urban areas to enhance public security. On the first night, 12 individuals were arrested for offenses such as assault, carrying knives, and drink-driving; officers checked 815 vehicles, 1,052 people, and 57 premises, resulting in 362 traffic reports and 10 vehicle impoundments.

The following night, operations continued with a shift in focus, resulting in five arrests for offenses including public insult, refusal to provide information, drug-impaired driving, and possession of narcotics. During this second phase, police checked 885 drivers and 397 passengers across 62 premises, issuing 309 traffic violations and impounding eight vehicles. Additionally, Nicosia traffic police conducted a separate campaign on September 27 targeting illegal use of personal mobility devices, resulting in 36 reports and the confiscation of 22 scooters. Police authorities stated that these daily operational actions are intended to ensure public safety and mitigate serious criminal and road traffic incidents.
