Cyprus central bank reports rise in bank deposits and loans for August 2026
The Central Bank of Cyprus reported that both bank deposits and loans in the country recorded net increases in August 2026. Total deposits reached €59.3 billion, marking a net monthly increase of €171.5 million, which represents a deceleration compared to the €562.3 million growth observed in July. Despite this slowdown, the annual growth rate for deposits accelerated to 6.5 per cent from 6.2 per cent in the previous month.
On the credit side, total loans increased by a net €114.6 million in August, reversing the trend from July when the sector experienced a net decline of €68.7 million. The total outstanding stock of loans reached €28.5 billion, with the annual growth rate rising to 11.8 per cent compared to 11.1 per cent in July. Domestic resident accounts show that while non-financial corporation deposits rose by €60.2 million, household deposits saw a minor contraction of €1.9 million. Regarding lending to residents, households secured €12.6 million in new loans, while non-financial corporations accounted for an increase of €32.4 million. Other domestic sectors saw a decrease in loans of €8.5 million.
