Cyprus and Israel aim for natural gas agreement by end of October

Cyprus and Israel are set to hold technical negotiations during the first half of October to finalize an agreement regarding a shared natural gas reservoir. The cross-border field connects the Cypriot 'Aphrodite' deposit, located in Block 12 of the Cypriot exclusive economic zone, with the 'Ishai' field situated in Israel's maritime zone.

Energy Minister Michael Damianos confirmed that discussions involving government officials, legal advisers, and representatives from the operating companies—including the US-based firm Chevron, which manages the Aphrodite field—are ongoing. The primary goal of these meetings is to resolve the long-standing geological dispute regarding the shared resource.

The parties aim to reach a formal agreement by the end of October. These talks represent a crucial phase in managing the cross-border energy assets, with both nations seeking to stabilize their cooperation regarding the overlapping reservoirs.
