Traffic incidents in Limassol lead to road closures and rescues

On Saturday afternoon, September 26, 2026, a multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the Limassol-Nicosia highway near the Mesa Geitonia overpass. The incident involved a bus carrying nine passengers and three private vehicles. While no injuries were reported, the accident caused significant traffic congestion and led to the temporary closure of the highway toward Nicosia, with police directing motorists to use the Mesa Geitonia exit. The road was reopened to traffic by 15:10 that same afternoon.

Separately, on the same Saturday afternoon, another traffic incident took place at the Polemidia roundabout in Limassol, where a vehicle overturned. The driver was trapped inside until the Fire Service performed a rescue operation, after which the individual was transported to Limassol General Hospital. The exact circumstances of this crash remain under investigation. Additionally, on Sunday, September 28, a third incident occurred on the Aplikiou-Palechori road where a car fell into a ditch, requiring the Fire Service to rescue the driver before transporting them to Nicosia General Hospital.
