Cyprus representative attends Asian Parliamentary Assembly committee meeting

Cypriot Member of Parliament Christos Christofides participated in the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The event, which concluded this past Saturday, involved representatives from more than twenty member parliaments and was inaugurated by the Speaker of the lower house of the Tajik parliament, Faizali Idizoda.

During his intervention, Christofides emphasized the necessity of multilateral cooperation for fulfilling collective commitments. He highlighted the pivotal role of parliaments in executing legislative action, securing targeted funding, and maintaining parliamentary oversight and accountability. Focusing on the geopolitical position of Cyprus, the MP noted that the country's location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, combined with its historical role as a meeting point for diverse cultures, religions, and traditions, reinforces its function as a diplomatic bridge between regions.

The committee sessions focused on human-centric approaches to social challenges, advocating for dialogue as a primary tool for international collaboration. The proceedings served as a platform for member states to align on legislative strategies to address contemporary social issues.
