Cypriot diaspora leaders honored at ceremony in New York

On Friday evening, September 26, 2026, the Cypriot diaspora held a major assembly at the Terrace on the Park event center in New York. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, accompanied by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Government Spokesman Constantinos Letymbiotis, Cyprus Ambassador to Washington Evangelos Savva, and Permanent Representative to the UN Maria Michael.

During the event, several notable diaspora figures were honored for their contributions. Despina Axiotaki and Stavros Kamilaris were presented with Community Service Awards, while John Josephiakis, Global Vice President at NVIDIA, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The event served as a platform for discussing the strong ties between the diaspora and Cyprus.

FCAO President Kyriakos Papastylianou hosted the gathering and emphasized the ongoing commitment to the Cyprus issue, specifically the efforts to restart negotiations for a settlement. He also highlighted the strengthening bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United States, underscoring the vital role the diaspora plays in maintaining these diplomatic and cultural connections.
