Twenty-two-year-old man found dead in Pyla

On Saturday around noon, a 22-year-old Russian national residing in Cyprus was discovered unconscious while floating between rocks near a breakwater in the Pyla tourist area. Bystanders and emergency responders brought him to the shore to provide first aid before he was transported by ambulance to the Larnaca General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police authorities have since confirmed the victim's identity and are coordinating with the Russian embassy to notify his relatives. While the incident remains under investigation to determine the exact circumstances of his death, reports indicate that the man had gone to the beach for a swim. Local media have noted that the incident occurred at an unorganized beach, prompting renewed public discussion regarding the adequacy of lifeguard staffing levels in the region, which reportedly saw reductions as of September 15.
