Two separate fatal water-related incidents reported in Cyprus

Over the weekend of September 26-27, 2026, two fatal incidents occurred in coastal waters across Cyprus. On Saturday at approximately 12:00, a 22-year-old Russian national residing in Cyprus was found unconscious among rocks at a breakwater in the Pyla tourist area. Despite receiving first aid on the beach and being transported to Larnaca General Hospital, the man was pronounced dead. Separately, on Saturday afternoon at 15:15, a 63-year-old British diver suffered a medical emergency in the Pernera area of Ayia Napa. The man fell ill during a dive and was moved to a floating platform, where his diving instructor and lifeguards provided emergency care. He was transferred to Famagusta General Hospital, where he later died. A post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday, but the exact cause of death remains inconclusive pending further laboratory results. The Ayia Napa Police Station is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
