2026 Limassol Wine Festival opens in Cyprus

The 2026 Limassol Wine Festival officially commenced on Saturday night at the municipal gardens of Limassol. The event, which celebrates 65 years of tradition, is scheduled to continue until October 4. The opening ceremony was conducted by Transport Minister Evie Tsolaki under the iconic statue of the 'vrakas,' in the presence of House President Annita Demetriou, various officials, and the public.

During her address, Minister Tsolaki highlighted the evolution of the festival from its inception by the late Kleanthis Christoforou, noting that it has grown from support by four major producers to including over 100 smaller wineries today. Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis emphasized the event's role in showcasing Cypriot hospitality and local traditions. The government underscored its commitment to the agricultural sector, referencing a vineyard replanting scheme initiated after last year’s wildfires, which also serves to create fire protection zones in rural areas.

The festival will remain open to the public for nine days, featuring a variety of cultural events, concerts, and wine tastings, representing a significant long-standing cultural institution for the city of Limassol.
