Cypriot film events highlight national and international cinematic achievements

The 21st Cyprus International Film Festival (CYIFF) concluded on September 25, 2026, at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre in Nicosia. The ceremony featured the awarding of the top honor, the Golden Aphrodite, to the Chinese film "Kimcheol" directed by Chengfeng Jin. This production also received accolades for best art direction and best editing. The event, co-organized with the 6th Women in Film & TV Cyprus (WIFT Cyprus), highlighted a diverse program of feature films, documentaries, and animation while showcasing significant contributions from Greek and Cypriot creators.

Simultaneously, the 16th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus has announced its National Competition Programme, scheduled to take place at the Rialto Theatre from October 10 to 16, 2026. This year's selection includes thirteen short films that explore themes of family, love, and identity. The committee has also curated a special screening titled "The Space In Between" to examine the experiences of living across different cultures and languages. These festivals represent critical platforms for local filmmakers to gain international exposure, build collaborations, and engage with wider audiences.
