Police conduct nationwide security and traffic enforcement operations

Cypriot police conducted a series of intensive, nationwide operations over the weekend of September 25-27, 2026, aimed at curbing criminal activity and traffic violations. Across these operations, authorities checked hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians, resulting in a total of 16 arrests. Crimes cited include burglary, assault, illegal possession of property, drug-related offenses, and various public order violations, including refusing to provide identification to officers.

The traffic enforcement component of the initiative yielded significant results, with hundreds of motorists fined for various infractions. Speeding remained a primary issue, with 120 tickets issued on Friday and 99 on Sunday. Furthermore, authorities conducted extensive alcohol and drug screenings. Over the three-day window, police impounded a total of 10 vehicles and issued hundreds of traffic citations while monitoring urban areas and inspecting nearly 100 business premises for delinquency.

These operations are part of a broader, ongoing police strategy to address rising crime rates and improve road safety across the Republic. Investigations into several of the reported cases are currently active, and further legal actions against the detainees are pending.
