Cyprus Minister Senekis to meet EU Commissioner Várhelyi over foot-and-mouth disease

Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, will travel to Brussels on September 27 to address the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease situation in Cyprus. During his visit, he is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Olivér Várhelyi, to discuss potential measures for tackling animal diseases.

These concerns will also be brought before the EU Council of Agriculture and Fisheries, chaired by the Irish Presidency, on September 29 and 30. Alongside the animal disease outbreak, the Council will deliberate on the future of the Common Agricultural and Fisheries Policies, as well as the stability of agricultural markets. Minister Senekis is expected to return to Cyprus on September 30, following the conclusion of the Council's proceedings.
