Yellow weather warning issued for Cyprus due to strong storms

Cyprus is under a yellow weather warning due to a low-pressure system affecting the region, bringing unstable conditions, local rain, and potential hail. The Meteorological Department issued the warning, which was in effect from 21:00 on Sunday, September 27, until 06:00 on Monday, September 28, 2026. The severe weather is expected to produce rainfall intensities ranging from 35 to 50 millimetres per hour.

The storms initially affected western and northern areas before spreading to other parts of the island. Temperatures were reported to drop significantly during the inclement weather, reaching lows of 18°C in the interior, 20°C on the coast, and 11°C in the mountains. Winds were projected to blow from the southwest to northwest at moderate to strong speeds, with gusts reaching up to 6 Beaufort in exposed coastal areas by the afternoon.

While the yellow alert expired early Monday morning, unstable conditions with increased clouds and isolated showers are expected to persist throughout the week as the low-pressure system continues to influence the local climate. Residents have been advised by meteorological authorities to remain alert as weather patterns fluctuate.
