Chinese giant pandas arrive in the United States following diplomatic summit

Two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday after a 16-hour flight from China. The transfer follows a 2025 agreement that was formally reaffirmed during a symbolic summit in Washington between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week.

The pandas, both six years old, departed from Chengdu-Shuangliu International Airport at 03:00 local time on a FedEx Boeing 777. The flight tracking service FlightRadar24 reported significant global interest in the aircraft's journey, particularly as it crossed over Alaska. The animals reached Atlanta just before 07:00 local time.

China frequently utilizes the gifting or loaning of pandas as a diplomatic tool to foster international relations. Under the terms of the current arrangement, these two pandas are scheduled to remain at the Atlanta Zoo for the next ten years as part of a long-term conservation and cultural exchange program.
